Question

In this chapter you have read that health is a wider concept than illness. Look at this quote from the Constitution and explain the terms 'living standard' and 'public health' in your own words.
An important part of the Constitution says it is the "duty of the State to raise the level of nutrition and the standard of living and to improve public health."

Solution

Living Standard means the conditions in which people are living. If they have access to better health care facilities, food, shelter, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, etc., it means the living standard is high.
On the contrary, if the above-mentioned items are poor in nature or unavailable, the people are having a low or poor living standard.
Public health means the general health conditions and well-being of a person. Everyone has got the basic right to avail health care services, to remain disease-free and healthy.
