Solution

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be x and y respectively .

It is given that,

Length of a rectangle is 4 cm more than its breadth.

x=y+4 --(1)

Perimeter of the rectangle is 40 cm.

Since, Perimeter of the rectangle =2×[length+breadth]

2(x+y)=40

x+y=402

x+y=2---(2)

Equations (1) and (2) represents simultaneous linear equations in two variables based on given information.
