Let us go through an experiment. Two deflated balloons of same mass were taken and tied to the ends of a stick with the help of a string. One of the balloons was inflated and the other balloon was left untouched. The result of this is shown in the given figure.
What can be inferred from this?
To show that air has mass.
The purpose of this experiment is to prove that air has mass. Initially, the stick will have no inclination as the balloons are deflated. When one of the balloons is inflated, the weight shifts and the stick inclines towards the inflated balloon. This can happen only if the inflated balloon has more mass than the deflated one. Hence, it can be said that air has mass.
