Dengue is caused by dengue Virus
Symptoms:
Fever, Headache, Muscle and joint pains, Characteristic skin rash that is similar to measles In some cases, low levels of blood platelets are found. It is transmitted by female Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Prevention:
No approved vaccine for dengue virus has been developed yet. So, the Prevention of this deadly disease depends on control of and protection from the bites of the mosquito that transmits it. The primary method to do so is to eliminate the habitats of the mosquito majorly during their breeding season i.e. rains. Their habitat is stagnant clean water. So it includes prevention of standing of any stagnant water in our environment and homes like flower pots, coolers etc where the mosquito can breed. Also, insecticides or biological control agents e.g.DEET N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide should be added to these areas. People should avoid mosquito bites by wearing clothing that fully covers the skin using mosquito nets while sleeping and applying mosquito repellants.
