During mitosis, cell division leads to the development of daughter cells that are similar in shape, size and chromosome number to the parent cells. Since the cells formed are similar mitosis helps in maintaining stability, there is no variation as a result of recombination. This process of cell division is therefore useful in the formation of similar cells needed during the development of zygote for the formation of the embryo, the renewal of dead cells with new cells and the regeneration of dead tissues or limbs. It is also useful in asexual reproduction where identical offsprings need to be formed and in vegetative propagation it helps in maintaining the useful traits in plants.
