Most leaves have the upper surface more green and shiny than the lower ones why?

Open in App
Solution

A dorsiventral leaf is differentiated into upper and lower surface, the upper surface is more green and shiny because it has a waxy coating to prevent loss of water due to evaporation. The upper or the dorsal/adaxial surface in its hypodermal region consists of a closely packed brick shaped cells that have a large number of chloroplasts. Therefore, the upper surface is green and shiny than the lower ones.
