Most of the preservatives are chemicals still we use them in our food to preserve .why?

Food preservation:

  1. These are methods to protect food from unwanted contamination and microbial growth.
  2. The food when prepared is protected by covering them with lids to keep away flies and other insects and it is a short-term preservation method.
  3. Food preservation can also be done for a longer time.
  4. Very commonly used chemical preservatives include potassium nitrate, benzoic acid, and sodium benzoate.
  5. Chemical food preservatives are used in very low quantities (up to 0.2%) and which do not alter the physicochemical properties of the foods.
  6. And as they are used in very limited and studied concentrations they don't cause any problems when we consume them.
