Question

No of protons in 5 gm of water

Open in App
Solution

Each molecule of water (H2O) consists of 10 protons ( 1 from each H atom and 8 from O atom, 1+1+8=10)

18g of H2O contains 6.022 x 10^23 molecules
=> 1g of H2O contains 6.022 x 10^23/18 molecules
=> 5g of H2O contains 3.345 x 10^22 x 5 molecules
=> 5g of H2O contains 1.673 x 10^23 molecules

Since Each molecule of water (H2O) consists of 10 protons
=>No of protons in 5g of water = 1.673 x 10^23 x 10 = 1.673 x 10^24 protons
