Solution

The suspension (chalk powder and water mixture)

  • These are types of substances where greater than 1000 nm-sized particles are suspended in a medium.
  • The suspended particles are large enough to see with the naked eye.
  • When a suspension (chalk powder and water) is left undisturbed, suspended particles will settle down at the bottom.
  • Before settling down the suspended particles, when a beam of light passed through it, the path of light becomes visible due to the scattering of light by the suspended particles which is called the Tyndall effect.

Hence, we can say that the chalk powder and water mixture is a suspension which satisfies the above-mentioned conditions.
