Now, according to the question, we have:
x + y = 35 ...(1)

Also, 20x + 40y = 900
⇒ 20(x + 2y) = 900
⇒ x + 2y = 45 ...(2)
Subtracting (1) from (2), we get:
x + 2y = 45
x + y = 35
