Question

A MIXTURE CONTAINS 0.2 GRAMS OF OXYGEN GAS AND 0.4 GRAM OF CARBON DIOXIDE GAS . THE RATIO OF OXYGEN ATOMS PRESENT IN OXYGEN GAS TO THAT IN CARDON DIOXIDE GAS IS?

Open in App
Solution

Molecular mass O2 = 32 g
Molecular mass CO2 = 12 + 2 x 16 = 44 g
Number of oxygen atoms in 32 g O2 = 2
So, number of oxygen atoms in 0.2 g oxygen = (2/32) x 0.2 = 0.0125
Number of oxygen atoms in 44 g CO2 = 2
So, number of oxygen atoms in 0.4 g oxygen = (2/44) x 0.4 = 0.018
Ratio of oxygen atoms in oxygen gas and CO2 gas = 0.0125/0.018
= 1: 0.7
