Question

an object 3cm high is placed at a distance of 9cm in front of a concave mirror of focal length 18cm. find the position, nature and the size of image formed.

Open in App
Solution

Given,
Height of object, h=3 cm
Object distance, u=-9 cm
Focal length, f=-18 cm
Using the mirror formula,
1/f=1/v +1/u
1/18=1/v +1/(-9)
v= 6 cm
Thus the position of image is 6 cm to the right side of mirror and so its nature will be virtual and erect.
Now, using magnification formula,
m=-v/u=h'/h
=-6/-9=h'/3
or height of image, h'=2 cm
