(a) Color change is seen when we add ink into water and also when rusting of iron occurs. What is the difference.

Solution

Colour observed in case of ink in water is due to formation of homogeneous mixture. In this case the intensity of colour will depend on the amount of ink in the mixture. A dark colour will be observed if a large amount of ink is added in water.

On the other hand the brown colour observed due to rusting of iron is a consequence of the formation of a chemical compound Iron(III)oxide hydrate. This can be represented by a chemical reaction :

4 Fe(s) + 3 O2(g) + 2x H2O(l) 2 Fe2O3.xH2O (s)

The colour in this case will not vary because the product Fe2O3.xH2O (s) has fixed composition and does not depend on the amount of reactants.
