Can plants be called producers of energy. Why /why not?

No, plants cannot be called as producers of energy, because they have the ability to fix and convert solar energy into food produced by them, but not to produce energy. The sun is the ultimate source of energy on the earth. Energy after reaching the earth is only converted from one form to another but not produced.
