Question

Dear Expert,

How come de-oxygenated blood from the right ventricle and auricle flows into the pulmonary ARTERY and oxygenated blood flows from the pulmonary VEIN into the left auricle and ventricle. Doesn't that deny the fact that oxygenated blood flows in the arteries and de-oygenated blood in the veins?

Solution

Pulmonary artery and pulmonary vain are the two exceptions in human circulatory system in which pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood and pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood. Other than these two all arteries carry oxygenated blood and all veins carry deoxygenated blood.
