Question

What happens when we add dilute sulphuric acid to lime water? Does the reaction mixture become hot or cool?

Open in App
Solution

When dilute sulphuric acid is added to lime water, calcium sulphate is formed. Also, heat is released in the process and so the reaction mixture becomes hot. Following is the chemical equation showing the reaction

H2SO4 + Ca(OH)2 → CaSO4 + H2O
