Question

If 10 volumes of dihydrogen react with 5 volumes of dioxygen gas, how many volumes of water will be produced?

Open in App
Solution

Reaction for the formation of water:
H2 + 12O2 H2O
1volume of dihydrogen gas reacts with 1/2 volume of dioxygen gas to form 1 volume of water.
So, ratio of volumes of dihydrogen and dioxygen gas is 1: 1/2 =2:1
ratio of dihydrogen and water produced = 1:1

Given ratio of dihydrogen and dioxygen gas = 10: 5 = 2:1
Therefore, volume of water produced = volume of dihydrogen gas = 10 volumes.
