If pulmonary artery carry deoxygenated blood ,then why it is called as artery.instead it should be called as a vein

  • Arteries carry blood away from the heart to the different organs of the body. The pulmonary artery is so named to differentiate it from the other arteries which carry oxygen-rich blood.

More to Know:

  • Pulmonary Artery begins at the base of the right ventricle. Then it branches into right and left pulmonary artery. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.
  • Only Pulmonary arteries and the umbilical arteries in the fetus carry deoxygenated blood.
  • Pulmonary arteries carry deoxygenated blood from right ventricle to the lungs for oxygenation.
