Question

Q1.1. A series combination of two resistors, 7.25 Ω and 4.03 Ω, is connected to a 9.00 V battery.

a. Calculate the equivalent resistance of the circuit and the current.

b. What is the potential difference across each resistor?

Solution

Given, R1 = 7.25 Ω and R2 = 4.03Ω
V = 9 volts
(a) Equivalent resistance, R = R1 + R2 = 11.28 ā€‹Ω

Current, I = V/R = 9/11.28 = 0.80A.

(b) V1 = I R1 = 0.80 X 7.25 = 5.8 V
V2 = I R2 = 3.22 V
