Question

state newtons universal law of gravitation.Define gravitational constant and write its dimenstional

Open in App
Solution

Newton's Law of Gravitation states that the attractive gravitational force existing between two bodies is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them

so, for a system fo two bodies of mass M and m separated by a distance R we have

F = GMm / R2

G is a universal constant a fixed number also known as Newton's Gravitational Constant which has the same vale (of 6.67 x 10-11 Nm2/kg2) everywhere in the universe. It is an important universal constant and is used to quantify the magnitude of the gravitational force exerted between two or more objects.
