What do you mean by sedimentation, decantation, filteration
How to prepare distilled water
Dear Student,
Sedimentation is the motion of molecules in solution or particles in suspension, in response to an external force such as gravity , centrifugal force or electric force.
It is simply the settling down of impurities by external force.
Decantation is a process for the separation of mixtures carefully pouring a solution from a container, leaving the precipitate or sediment in the bottom of the container.
Filtration is a mechanical or physical operation which is used for the separation of solids from fluids (liquids or gases) by interposing a medium to fluid flow, through which the fluid can pass, but the solids (or at least part of the solids) in the fluid are retained.
For the preparation of distilled water, first of all the water is heated at its boiling point so that it gets converted into steam which is now collected into a condenser where, the hot steam is cooled and condensed to get pure distilled water.
