Only female anopheles mosquito act as a vector in malaria because female suck blood to obtain nutrients and proteins for producing fertile eggs. Male do not produce eggs so they do not need to suck the blood.
Male and female anopheles feed on nectar and damaged food. Female anopheles need extra proteins for their eggs, so they suck blood from animal's body.
