Question

Why the volume increases when the temperature is increased? and pressure remains constant

Open in App
Solution

Charles’ Law gives the relation between temperature (T) and volume (V).

According to this law, “at constant pressure, the volume of a fixed amount of a gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature.”

Mathematically,

V α T,

V = k2T

where k2 = Proportionality constant

If fixed amount of gas is taken and its temperature is increased, then kinetic energy of the molecules of the gas increases. So molecules start going far apart to each other and force of attraction between them starts decreasing. So volume of gas starts increasing.
