Solution
After returning from South Africa, Mahatma Gandhi followed an innovative method of mass agitation based on truth and non – violence
It was known as satyagraha
Gandhji believed that without the cooperation of Indians the British would not have ruled India
If Indians refused to cooperate, the rule would collapse within a year
Hence, the non – cooperation movement would have to be started in stages
As a first step to this movement, the titles awarded by the government should be surrendered, and as a second step, civil services, army, police, courts etc, should have to be boycotted
Rowlatt Act invited massive protests from people all over the country
The worst and brutal killing of hundreds of people at Jallianwala Bagh made Indians angry
These two events led Gandhiji start non – cooperation movement in India at a massive scale
