• After returning from South Africa, Mahatma Gandhi followed an innovative method of mass agitation based on truth and non – violence
• It was known as satyagraha
• Gandhji believed that without the cooperation of Indians the British would not have ruled India
• If Indians refused to cooperate, the rule would collapse within a year
