Question 95
Solve the following:
Hamid has three boxes of different fruits. Box A weighs 2 12 kg more than box B and Box C weighs 10 14 more than box B. The total weight of the three boxes is 4834kg. How many kilograms does box A weigh?
Let the weight of box A be x kg.
According to the equation,
Weight of Box A=Weight of Box B + 52 kg
⇒Weight of box B=(x−52)kg
and weight of Box C=Weight of Box B+ 414kg
⇒Weight of Box C=x−52+414kg=x+(−10+414)kg=(x+314)kgAs, total weight of three boxes=4834kg=1954kg
∵Total weight of three boxes=Weight of box A+Weight of Box B+ Weight of Box C
∴1954=x+x−52+x+314⇒1954=3x+31−104⇒1954=3x+214⇒3x=1954−214⇒3x=195−214⇒3x=1744⇒x=1743×4⇒x=292∴x=1412kg.
Hence, box A weighs 1412kg.
