Question

Residential colony has a population of 5400 and 60 liters of water is required per person per day. For the effective utilization of rain water, they constructed a water reservoir measuring 48 m×27, m×25m to collect rainwater. For how many days, the water of this tank is sufficient, if during rain the height of the water is 5 m.

Solution

Total water used per day =5400×60=324000 litres
Dimension of the water reservoir =48×27×25
=32400 m3
Volume of the water in the reservoir
=48×27×5
=6480 m3
Since, 1 m3=1000 litres
Thus, volume of water in the reservoir =6480000 litres.
Water will be sufficient for 6480000324000 days
=20 days
Therefore, the water in the tank is sufficient for 20 days.
