RS.17 is in the form of 50 paise coins,25 paise coins, and 20 paise coins. The number of 25 paise coins is double the number of 20 paise coins but half the number of 50 paise coins. Find the number of coins of each type.

Sol:
Let the number of 50 p coins be x
Number of 20 p coins be y
Number of 25 p coins = 2y = x/2
⇒ y = x/4 --------- (1)

Total amount of coins = Rs 17 = 1700 p
50 (x) + 20 (y) + 25 (2y) = 1700
50 (4y) + 20 (y) + 50 (y) = 1700
200 y + 20 y + 50 y = 1700
27 y = 1700
y = 1700 / 27
y = 62.96

Number coins cannot be in decimals. Therefore there is no case according to conditions given in question.
