Epinephrine is an amino-acid derivative hormone, which is water-soluble. Growth hormone is a protein hormone, which is also water-soluble. Since both epinephrine and growth hormone are water soluble, they cannot cross the cell membrane. Therefore, they produce second messengers. These second messengers include cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cyclic AMP), inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate $I P_{3}$ , and calcium ions.

Thyroxine is an iodothyronine, which is a lipid soluble hormone.
