Sheela went to a bank to withdraw Rs. 2000. She asked the cashier to give her Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 notes only. After transaction Sheela got 25 notes in all. Find how many notes of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 she received. [4 MARKS]

Let the number of 50 rupee notes be $x$, and 100 rupee notes be $y$

After transaction Sheela received 25 notes in all

$\Rightarrow x+y=25\dots \dots \left(i\right)$

Also since total amount is 2000

$50x+100y=2000$

$\Rightarrow x+2y=40\dots \dots \left(ii\right)$

Solving (i) and (ii) ,

$x=25-y$ [From (i)]

Substituting value of x in (ii)

$x+2y=40$

$25-y+2y=40$

$25+y=40\Rightarrow y=15$

Now, $x=25-y$

$x=25-15\Rightarrow x=10$

$\therefore y=15,x=10$
