Solution

Law of conservation of mass:

  • It was given Antoine Laurent Lavoisier in 1789.
  • According to him during a chemical reaction in an isolated system mass can neither be created nor be destroyed it remains conserved.
  • Mass of reactant =Mass of product

H2(g)+Cl2(g)2HCl(g)

Hydrogen Chlorine Hydrogen chloride

mass of hydrogen + mass of chlorine = mass of hydrogen chloride

2g of H2 + 71g of Cl2 = 2x36.5g of HCl (here, mass of HCl(1g of H + 35.5g of Cl)

73g of reactant =73g of product

  • This equation shows the reaction is in accordance with the law of conservation of mass.
