Question

Solid ammonium carbamate, NH4CO2NH2(s), dissociates into ammonia and carbon dioxide when it evaporates as shown by
NH4CO2NH2(s)2NH3(g)+CO2(g)
At 25C, the total pressure of the gases in equilibrium with the solid is 0.116 atm, if 0.1 atm of CO2 is introduced after equilibrium is reached then:

A
The final pressure of CO2 will be less than 0.1 atm

Solution

The correct option is C The pressure of NH3 will decrease due to addition of CO2
NH4CO2NH2(s)2NH3(g)+CO2(g)

On addition of CO2 the reaction moves backwards to keep Kp constant hence the pressure of NH3 decreases.
Also, since 0.1 atm of CO2 is introduced after equilibrium is obtained, its pressure will be more than 0.1 atm.
