Question

Solve graphically the following system of equations.
2x−y+1 = 0
x−2y+8 = 0

Open in App
Solution

We will find two solutions of both equations and use them to graph the lines.

Graph of the equation
2x−y+1=0
y = 2x + 1

Plotting the points (0, 1) and (3, 7) and drawing a line joining them, we get the graph of the equation 2x−y+1=0.
Graph of the equation
x−2y+8=0

Plotting the points (0, 4) and (4, 6) on the same rectangular coordinate system and drawing a line joining them, we obtain the graph of the equation

There is exactly one point (2, 5) where the graphs intersect. Hence, x=2 and y=5 is the solution of the given system.
