Given : 25 fruits were purchased , So

Let Total apples purchased = x
So,
Total guava purchased = 25 - x

$$\begin{gathered} \mathrm{cost}\mathrm{of}1\mathrm{apple}=\mathrm{Rs}5 \\ \mathrm{cost}\mathrm{of}\mathrm{x}\mathrm{apples}=\mathrm{Rs}5\mathrm{x} \\ \mathrm{Cost}\mathrm{of}1\mathrm{guava}=\mathrm{Re}0.50 \\ \mathrm{cost}\mathrm{of}\left(25-\mathrm{x}\right)\mathrm{guavas}=\mathrm{Rs}\left[0.5\left(25-\mathrm{x}\right)\right] \end{gathered}$$

according to the question,

5x + ( 25 - x ) 0.50 = 26

5x + 12.50 - 0.50x = 26

4.5x = 13.5

x = $\frac{13.5}{4.5}$

x = 3

So,

Total number of apples purchased = 3 ( Ans )
