Solution
Transformation of energy
When energy is converted from one form to another, it is termed the transformation of energy.
Examples
Electric iron - An electric iron works when electricity is provided to it. It is used to produce heat so we can iron our clothes. Therefore, the energy transformation that takes place here is the conversion of electrical energy to heat energy.
Electric bulb - An electric bulb works when electricity is provided to it. It is used to produce light. Therefore, the energy transformation that takes place here is the conversion of electrical energy to heat energy and light energy.
Steam engine - A steam engine uses heat to boil water and produce steam. The steam produced under high pressure is used to run the train. As the train runs, it acquires velocity, and therefore, kinetic energy. Therefore, the energy transformation that takes place here is the conversion of heat energy to kinetic energy.
Solar cell - A solar cell is used to trap light energy that comes directly from the sun. The solar cell uses this light energy to produce electrical energy. Therefore, the energy transformation that takes place here is the conversion of light energy to electrical energy.
Gas stove - A gas stove uses fuel, that is, chemical energy. It is used to produce heat so that we can cook. Therefore, the energy transformation that takes place here is the conversion of chemical energy to heat energy.
