  • When one or more atoms of the same or different elements combine with each other chemically, a compound is formed.
  • For example - Sodium chloride, Water, Sugar, etc.

Some characteristics of compounds are as follows -

  1. The nature of the elements that make up a chemical compound does not change.
  2. In nature, a pure chemical substance is homogeneous.
  3. A chemical complex can be dismantled into two or more elements. Chemical methods can be used to synthesize these elements.
  4. A chemical compound has a fixed composition, which means that its constituent elements combine in a predetermined weight ratio.
  5. A chemical compound has its own set of qualities that are separate from those of its constituent elements.
