Solution

Conversion of Sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide:

  • Sulphur dioxide gas is oxidized to sulphur trioxide gas by oxygen in the presence of Platinum (Pt) catalyst.
  • The reaction occurs at 450°C temperature & 1.5atm pressure.

Balanced chemical equation :

2SO2(g)Sulphurdioxide+O2(g)Oxygen450°C/1.5atmPtcatalyst2SO3(g)Sulphurtrioxide

Hence, the conditions required are:

  1. Temperature- 450°C
  2. Catalyst- Platinum (Pt)
  3. Pressure- 1.5atm
