Open in App
Solution

Role of bacteria in making the soil fertile:

  1. Bacteria increase soil fertility through nutrient recycling such as carbon, nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus.
  2. Bacteria also help in the decomposition of dead organic matter and then give out simple compounds in the soil, which can be used up by plants.
  3. Certain bacterias such as rhizobium help in fixing atmospheric nitrogen into the soil, thus, improving the fertility of the soil.
