When $H C l$ is added to sodium carbonate crystals, $C O_{2}$ gas is released. We get the brisk effervescence of $C O_{2}$ gas. It is a colourless and odourless gas with turns lime water milky. If a glowing splint is brought near to $C O_{2}$ gas it will extinguish.
