Solution

Step 1: Given data

Marked price of articles A and B together = Rs.6,000

Sale tax on article A = 5%

Sale tax on article B = 12%

Total GST collected on both articles = Rs. 552

Step 2: Calculate the marked price

Let the marked price of article A be Rs.x and article B be Rs.y.

Since the marked price of articles A and B together is Rs. 6,000, then,

x+y=6000...1

Also, the total GST collected on selling both articles is Rs. 552. Then,

5%ofx+12%ofy=552x×5100+y×12100=5525x+12y100=5525x+12y=55,200...(2)

Step 3: Solve both equations

Multiply equation (1) by 5 and subtract it from equation (2),

5x+12y-5x+5y=55,200-30,0007y=25,200y=25,2007y=Rs.3,600

Substitute value of y in equation (1),

x=6,000-3,600x=Rs.2,400

Hence, the marked price of article A is Rs.2400 and the marked price of article B is Rs.3600.
