Given the ion having a charge of -2 has 10 electrons. Then the number of electrons in the neutral atom will be =(10-2)=8.
A neutral atom with 8 electrons will have 8 protons as well. Hence the atomic number of the element is 8.
Since the atomic number is 8, it is oxygen atom.
Oxygen on gaining a charge of -2 will have the symbol: O-2
Number of neutrons=(mass number - atomic number)=(18-8)=10.
