There are n rows each containing m cells means m cells are connected in series. So, effective resistance of each branch will be

rseries=mr

Since total n rows are present in mixed combination, so equivalent resistance of mixed combination will be

req=mrn

For maximum current in the circuit, external resistance should be equal to net internal resistance. So,

R=mrn

R=3 Ω, r=0.5 Ω

3=m×0.5n

m=6n ....(1)

And given that

m×n =24

6n×n=24 (from equation (1))

n=2 and m=12

Hence, option (c) is correct.
