According to Fehling's answer, this test may be used to differentiate between aldehydes and ketones.
Ketones, unless they are -hydroxy ketones, do not provide a positive result when Fehling's reagent oxidizes an aldehyde.
As a consequence, compound (P) and its products may be distinguished using Fehling's solution (Q).
