Question

The specific conductivity of 0.02 M KCl solution at 25C is 2.768×103ohm1cm1. The resistance of this solution at 25C when measured with a particular cell was 250.2 ohm. The resistance of 0.01 M CuSO4 solution at 25C measured with the same cell was 8331 ohm. Calculate the molar conductivity of the copper sulphate solution.

Solution

Cell constant =Sp. cond. of KClConductance of KCl
=2.768×1031/250.2
=2.768×103×250.2
For 0.01 M CuSO4 solution
Sp.conductivity=Cell constant×Conductance
=2.768×103×250.2×18331
Molar conductance =Sp.cond.×1000C
=2.768×103×250.28331×10001/100=8.312 ohm1cm2mol1.
