the two acids H2SO4 are neutralized separately by the same amount of an alkali when sulphate and dihydrogen orthophate are formed respectively. Find the ratio of the masses of H2SO4 and H3PO4.

Solution
H2SO4+2NaOH→Na2SO4+2H2O H3PO4+NaOH→NaH2PO4+H2O
Equivalent of alkali = 1 g equivalent of H2SO4= 1 g equivalent of H3PO4
The two acids must react in the ratio of their equivalent masses.
Equivalent mass of H2SO4=982=49
Equivalent mass of H3PO4=981=98
Hence ratio of masses of H2SO4: H3PO4= 49 : 98 =1 : 2.
