The energy of the capacitor E=12CV2 work done in increasing the potential of the capacitor from V to 2V is
W=12C[(2V)2(V)2]=12C[4V2V2]W=12C(3V)2=3V2C2....(1)
from 2V to 4V work done is -
W=12C[(4V)2(2V)2]=12C[16V24V2]
W=12C(12V2).......(2)
From equation (1) and (2)
WW=12V2C2×23V2C
W=4W
