Two spheres of masses, 20 g and 40 g are moving on a straight frictionless path in the same direction with velocities of 3 m/s and 2 m/s respectively. They collide with each other and after collision, the sphere of mass 20 g moves with a velocity of 2.5 m/s in the same direction as before collision. Find the velocity of the second ball after collision.

From law of conservation of linear momentum,

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

0.02×3+0.04×2=0.02×2.5+0.04×v2

v2=2.25 m/s
