What characteristic of cardiac muscle tissue prevents it from undergoing tetanus?

Long refractory period prevents it from undergoing tetanus. As cardiac muscle tissue cannot undergo tetanus (sustained contraction). This property is important because a heart in tetany could not pump blood.
