Solution

Biomolecules

  • Biomolecules are the important organic compounds, required for the growth and maintenance of living beings.
  • The range of biomolecules is from small molecules to massive macromolecules like proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and so on.

Types of biomolecules

Carbohydrates

  • Plants are the primary producers of carbohydrates, that comprise a vast category of naturally occurring chemical compounds.
  • Carbohydrates can be described chemically as optically active polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones, or substances that yield such units upon hydrolysis.
  • Examples of carbohydrates are glucose, starch, and cane sugar.

Lipids

  • Lipids are organic compounds that are soluble in organic solvents but insoluble in water.

Nucleic acids

  • Nucleic acids are chemical substances that occur naturally and act as the primary information-carrying molecules in organisms.
  • Examples of nucleic acid are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and ribonucleic acid (RNA).

Proteins

  • Proteins are polymers of α-amino acids that are linked together by a peptide bond or peptide linkage.
  • Milk, cheese, grains, peanuts, fish, and meat are excellent sources of protein.
