Conjugated proteins: Simple proteins are those that consist only of amino acids. On the other hand, conjugated proteins also have a prosthetic group (a non-amino acid unit) such as a sugar, a nucleic acid, a lipid or some other group.
This functions in interaction with other (non-polypeptide) chemical groups attached by covalent bonding or weak interactions.
