What are hypotonic, isotonic, hypertonic solutions? A plant cell kept in hypertonic solution shrinks. Why?

Dear student, Hypertonic solution - The solution, which have more solute concentration as compared to inside the cell. Hypotonic solution- The solution which have less solute concentration as compared to inside the cell. Isotonic solution- The solution which have same concentration of solute inside and outside the cell. If a cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, the water moves out of the cell, which makes the cell shrink. Regards
